May 11, 2006 - Cody Wofford, 15-years-old, Megan Wofford, 13-years-old and Cheyenne Peavy, 9-years-old, have a lot in common, other than the fact that they are brother and sisters. All three of the siblings are members of 4-H and FFA in Bastrop County, and live in Smithville. On April 29 all three kids showed animals and/or chickens at the local Smithville Livestock Show. While Cody said he “usually” shows steers, he showed rabbits and broilers, this time. Megan showed a heifer, chickens, and rabbits, while Cheyenne had broilers and rabbits, too. Each of the kids noted they love working together when they are getting ready for shows. The only part they aren’t crazy about is getting up before school to feed their show animals and chickens! This year, the family traveled to livestock contests in Austin and Houston. Plus, Cody participates in the calf scrambles (calf-catching contest) in Austin and San Antonio, and he was successful at each! Next year, all three plan to show heifers. The siblings like to help with the family garden, and have plans for “beans and tomatoes,” said Cheyenne. (Lately, they’ve had problems with a gopher, but they hope to settle that problem fairly quickly!) This year Megan was named 4-H Club Sweetheart for Smithville, and attended a banquet to receive special recognition the first of May. While the kids are looking forward to being out of school for the summer, they won’t be sitting around wondering what to do. With animals to feed and barns to all be cleaned, their work is cut out for them! |
