Man gets probation for spotlighting Apache chopper

E-mail Print

GATESVILLE, Texas (AP) — A Central Texas man accused of shining a spotlight on a military helicopter that allegedly spooked his cattle must serve two years of probation.

Jacob Amspacher was arrested in April on a misdemeanor charge of illegal illumination of an aircraft, over an incident near Copperas Cove.

KXXV-TV reports Amspacher initially told authorities in Coryell County, which includes part of Fort Hood, that the Apache helicopters were scaring his livestock.

Amspacher was convicted Monday. He declined comment after his trial.

Maj. Allen Hahn has said pilots try to "fly friendly" during training missions. Hahn says the military has regulations on staying away from personnel, equipment, houses and livestock.
