March 24, 2005 - "Building Better Tomorrows" is the motto of the Texas Extension Education Association (TEEA), which helps in raising money for 4-H clubs.

On Wednesday, March 16, the McLennan County Extension Education Clubs (EE clubs) sponsored their 22nd annual fashion show fundraiser. Held at the Veterans of Foreign War Post 2148 in Waco, the room was packed with women anticipating the spring's contemporary fashion trends.

Modeling began following a catered baked potato lunch by Golden Corral. Over 50 spring and summer ensembles were modeled by various EE club members. The fashionable clothes were provided by Beall's, Catherine's, Dunlaps, Goody's, Marilyn's Gift Gallery and Mervyn's.

"This is part of our annual fundraiser, that raises money for 4-H scholarships and for educational programs for our clubs," said Danielle DeVault, chairman of the EE Clubs Finance Committee, that sponsored the show. "Everyone involved with the clubs are volunteers."

The clothes that are fashionable for spring and summer include light-weight, gauzy shirts worn over tank tops and colorful shells. The pink and lime green colors displayed were said to be passionate, cheerful colors to wear this season. Shimmering suits and expressive hats were also toted as highlight apparel to dazzle others.

McLennan County EE Clubs are part of the TEEA, a state-wide organization with the purpose to strengthen family and community life through education, community service and volunteerism.

Five EE clubs are located in the Waco area. Their names are Orchard Lane, Progressive, Robinson, McGregor and Woodway, DeVault explained.

"All of the clubs helped with this event. It's a long process," DeVault said. "Last year we earned a little over $1,000. We plan to raise around the same amount this year."

EE clubs meet once a month and each club offers at least eight educational programs per year. For more information on EE clubs, contact your local Extension office.
