May 20, 2004 -- Grimes County Ag and Lawn held it's annual Hay Field Day on Tuesday, May 11. The purpose of the event was "to show hay producers what we have to offer in solutions of handling hay," said Tim Prater, owner and manager of Prater Equipment Company and Grimes County Ag and Lawn. Company reps were on hand "to tell about the proper usage of the equipment and what it's designed to do," Prater said. Held on Thomas Jozwiak's property, located between Hempstead and Navasota, the central location was an accessible place for customers. A crowd of 125-150 people attended Hay Field Day, most of which were hay producers. Four stations of hay cutters, balers, handling equipment and tractors, along with presentations on using the equipment, were on display. The rain caused the event to end early, so the ride and drive was canceled. But, the attendees were able to watch bales of hay being rolled and ate a barbecue lunch under the tents, catered by Kimich Catering. Continuing Education Units were also provided. During his wrap-up speech, while thanking everyone for coming to the event and apologizing for not being able to drive the equipment, Prater positively concluded, "The good thing about the rain is that it makes more hay for us." |
