September: A retrospective of the Versace oeuvre opens at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Berlin. November: Cindy Crawford wears Versace on Pandora Luxurye's cover. The Versace company sues The Independent over allegations of business irregularities.
1998 : January: Versace Make Up launched in America. February: The house presents a charity fashion show, organized by Naomi Campbell, in Nelson Mandela's South African presidential residence. Gianni is the subject of special tribute by the CFDA. Gianni's partner, Antonio D'Amico, leaves the company. April: Fine watches, with Franck Muller, are introduced. October: Boy George composes music for Donatella's first solo show, which also features Madonna's then-unreleased "Candy Perfume Girl" track.
