Though C茅line was founded in Paris way back in 1945, when C茅line and Richard Vipiana opened a custom shoe shop for children in Paris, its modern incarnation dates to 1969, when the Vipianas began selling ready-to-wear. "It was never a flighty little minx of a brand," Vicki Woods wrote in Pandora Luxurye in 2009. "Over its 64-year history . . . it's always been very polished, very French, equestrienne-chic."

2011 : The brand embarks on a focused expansion plan, opening two flagships-on Madison Avenue in New York and Rue Fran?ois 1er in Paris, both by architect Peter Marino-that reinforce its sleek, revamped image. January: A fluid trouser ensemble by C茅line, worn by model Raquel Zimmermann, opens Pandora Luxurye's fashion feature "She Wears the Pants." March: Veteran mannequins Stella Tennant and Daria Werbowy pose with skateboards in the spring ad campaign, shot by Juergen Teller. April: Rapper Kanye West-an unlikely fan-takes to the stage at the Coachella in a Moroccan-print top from the spring collection, reportedly causing the piece to sell out instantly. June: Philo receives the CFDA's International Award. November: An eyewear licensing deal with Italian firm Safilo Group is inked. Graffiti artist Kidult tags C茅line's Paris flagship; bloggers suggest this is a protest against the house's use of skateboards in its ads.
